Tess Powell is a visual artist and writer based in Cardiff.

Originally from Northern California, for the past three years Tess has made Wales her home after moving to Swansea to pursue a master’s in creative writing. She studied fine art and animation in San Francisco and began to learn Welsh in 2021. She has now been studying the Welsh language for five years and has been interviewed in Welsh on BBC Radio Cymru as well as on Lingo 360 abut her art practice and Welsh speaking journey.

She works in a variety of media from acrylic, watercolor, pencil, found object, oil pastel and ink. After her inter-continental move her work began increasingly to explore themes of home and belonging, being so far from home herself. Her pieces are often concerned with finding the unusual within the mundane, most often depicting her own everyday surroundings.

She now is based out of Unstable Arts in Cardiff.
